With profound sadness we announce the passing of Arlie Rae Grenfell, a devoted mother and friend to all those whose lives she touched, on October 3, 2019. She passed away fighting a form of cancer in the 76th year of her life. Arlie was born in Ogden, Utah on October 24, 1942 to William Robert and Arloa Watson Montgomery.She is a graduate of Anaconda High school and two-time graduate of the University of Montana where she got a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s in education. She taught elementary, junior, and senior high school music. Arlie and her husband Sidney Grenfell whom she married in December of 1966, welcomed two sons, Dean born in December of 1973, and Grant born in February of 1976, whom she loved whole-heartedly. Following Sidney’s passing at an early age, Arlie persevered to successfully raise her children. She instilled in her sons strong values that serve them well. Arlie loved her Griz and Packer football teams, church, her cat, gardening, traveling with her friends and volunteering at Benefis Hospital. She had a sparkle in her eyes and a smile that warmed the hearts of all those who met her. Most importantly, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren! She was so hip among the kids that she earned the nickname “G-ma.” Arlie is survived by her sons, Dean (Amber) of Great Falls, MT and Grant (Jessi) of Black Eagle, MT; brothers, Bill (Lou Ann)Montgomery of North Liberty, IA and Tim Montgomery of Helena, MT; grandchildren, Shyanna, Kaiden, Chaylynne, Bridger, Rowl, and Bryker; niece, Cara (Nick) Buda; nephew, Mike Montgomery; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney; her parents; stepfather, Don Demmons; and sisters, Pamela Sue Montgomery and Martha Ann Montgomery. Please come and join us in the celebration of Arlie's life that will be held Saturday, October 12, 2019, at the Sunrise Presbyterian Church, located at 3808 6th Ave South Great Falls, at 11:00 a.m.
