Bernie was born October 23, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, to Margaret Miller and Marvin McDonald. At the age of three he moved with his family to Great Falls, a place he would call home for the next 81 years. Bernie started his 38 year career in the Public Works Dept. for The City of Great Falls in 1956, shortly before being drafted into the US Army in 1957. He cherished his time in the service and always quoted the end of his stories with “It was a great experience.” He was honorably discharged in 1959. Bernie had many hobbies and even more friends and family to share them with. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, collecting and restoring old cars, reloading bullets with his son and grandchildren, attending and participating in parades, tending to his home, and spending time with family and friends. Bernie was a member of various organizations around Great Falls including, the Elks (Lodge #214), Skunkwagon Car Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the VFW. Bernie will be remembered as a hardworking man with a kind heart. He will be laid to rest at the Montana State Veteran’s Cemetery in Ft. Harrison.
