Clarence "Cliff" Schmidt

Clarence Cliff Schmidt, 79, of Fairfield, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014Burial will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 449 4th Lane NE in Fairfield. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Clarence was born on August 21, 1935, to Jacob and Karolina (Kramer) Schmidt in Terry, Montana. He was the youngest of 9 children and they moved to the Fairfield Bench in 1937. He attended Greenfield Elementary and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1953. He went on to attend Northern Montana College in Havre from 1955-1958. The Army called and he served his country in Korea in 1958-1960. He married Cheri Mossey in Denton, MT on June 26, 1960. They moved to the Greenfield Bench to farm and ranch. On that farm and ranch they raised three children - Sandra, Michael and Curtis - and went on to enjoy sharing the farm with their grandchildren. In 2013 they moved into the town of Fairfield.Cliff served his community and participated on the Greenfield School Board, Teton County ASCS Board, Fairfield Community Hall Board, and St. Paul Lutheran Church Council.He loved to play cards, bowling, watch sports on TV, and spend time with his family.Survivors include his wife of 54 years Cheri; daughter, Sandra (Matt) Pepos of Great Falls; sons, Michael (Stephanie) Schmidt of Fairfield and Curtis (Kim) Schmidt of Alturas, CA; grandchildren-Dustin, Mathias and Karolina Pepos, Kelly, Erik and Logan Schmidt and Triston, Taleigh and Teigan Isakson; sisters Almeda Pfeifle of Power, and Emma Jacobsen of Paradise, CA; sisters-in-law, Esther Schmidt of Choteau, Carol Schmidt of Great Falls and Joan Schmidt of Great Falls; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Preceding him in death were his parents; sister Maggie Stolte; brothers Herb, Bill, Gideon, Arthur and Isedor; and grand-nephew Jimmy Clark, Jr.Memorials are suggested to Lutheran Social Services of Montana, 600 Central Avenue #311, Great Falls, MT 59403; St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fairfield, MT, Fairfield Drop-In or donors choice.
