Donald Bruce Carmichael, 79, passed away peacefully April 23, 2018 surrounded by family. He was born to Dr. Glenn A. and Aili J. (Maki) Carmichael on July 5, 1938 in Butte, Montana. While he was still a young child, the family relocated to Missoula which Bruce always considered his hometown. He was a proud graduate of Paxon Elementary and Missoula County High School (now Sentinel H.S.) in 1957. He later graduated from the University of Montana, Missoula, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, and received a Master’s degree from Montana State University, Bozeman in 1970. Bruce worked for many years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor/provider in both the public and private sector around Montana, finally rounding out his career when he established his own vocational rehabilitation business, Carmichael & Associates, in Great Falls in 1999. He retired in June 2014. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy; son Bill (Amy); and daughter Katie Zorner (Brent), all of Great Falls; as well as, beloved grandchildren, Brittney Wyatt of New Hampshire, Collin Carmichael, Rylie Carmichael and Isaac Zorner all of Great Falls; nephews Gary Carmichael of Whitefish and Kenneth Carmichael of Texas and their families. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and his brother G. Alan Carmichael, Jr. He was an avid UM Grizzly and all-around football fan and enjoyed following the team, and when able, playing golf. A gregarious individual, he was probably best known for his talented story-telling, continuously updating, enhancing and embellishing his creations. He was currently a member of Suicide Prevention Task Force of Great Falls. Cremation has taken place through Schnider Funeral Home and a memorial get together will be held in Missoula at a date to be determined.
