Marene Johnston won her victory in Christ on September 28th. She died of natural causes at Peace Hospice House in Great Falls. She was born on August 29, 1931, in Three Rivers, Michigan. After raising her five children and the passing of her husband, Detective Sergeant Robert L. Johnston of the Michigan State Police, she returned to college and earned her Associates of Nursing Degree. She worked as a nurse for more than 20 years before her retirement. She taught first aid and CPR through the Red Cross. During that time she donated more than 29 gallons of blood. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts. Marene was a master quilter and enjoyed sharing her quilts with family and friends while donating many to Comforters for Kids. She was active in the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and also volunteered at Great Falls Christian Academy, an educational ministry of Christ's Church of which she was a member.She leaves behind her five children: Bob Johnston (Linda), CJ Oakland (Lonnie), Dianne Hardke (Jeff), Annette Zech (Stan), and Paul Johnston (Cheryl). She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and her cat, Newman.A memorial service is planned for October 15th, at 1:00 p.m. at Christ's Church, 2902 17th St. S.
