Doris Marjorie Cladouhos

May 14, 1924 — August 27, 2021

Doris Fagenstrom Cladouhos, 97, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021, at Highgate Senior Living in Great Falls, Montana. She was visited by loving family members from all over the country during her final months. Doris was born on May 14, 1924, in Great Falls to Joe and Myrtle Fagenstrom. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1942 and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver. Doris met Peter Cladouhos while working at her Uncle Roy’s Newsstand on Central Avenue. An accomplished pianist and vocal accompanist, she was impressed by Peter’s rich baritone voice and the love songs he sang to her. Their courtship was sustained by letters for three years during WWII, until Peter was discharged from the US Army Infantry (Pacific Islands) in October of 1945. They were married on February 26, 1946, at the First United Methodist Church in Great Falls. Doris had a quick, rapier-like wit. Although her favorite comedians were Phyllis Diller and Carol Burnett, her observational style was more like Rodney Dangerfield and perfect timing of one-liners was pure Jack Benny. In addition to making people laugh, Doris loved seeing her children and grandchildren, dogs, cooking (especially Greek), church activities, yard work and gardening, playing Bridge and Pinochle with friends, and her Baby Grand piano. Although unable to bring her piano to Highgate, she enjoyed playing theirs for appreciative residents this summer. Doris is survived by her husband, Peter and their five children, Joe (Tova) Cladouhos, Tom (Sherry) Cladouhos, Christine (David) Larson, Adina (Ron) Bedwell, and Roberta (Larry) Powell; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers, Richard and James Fagenstrom. A celebration of life will be held at the First United Methodist Church on May 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The program will include stories, jokes, singing, and laughter. RIP Doris - we’ll take it from here. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Highgate Senior Living, or Peace Hospice.
