Elethea "Ellie" Margaret Scow

October 1, 1935 — January 28, 2018

Elethea “Ellie” Scow, 82, died peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Benefis Peace Hospice in Great Falls from complications of kidney disease. Ellie was born on October 1, 1935 in Butte, Montana. She graduated from Butte High School in 1954. She lived in Tacoma, Washington and Dillon, Montana for short periods until settling in Great Falls in 1960. After raising her children, she studied counseling and became a Yokefellow Spiritual Growth leader. Her son, Dan and daughter-in-law Cecilia live in Roscommon, Michigan and have 3 adult daughters, Maggie, Emily and Sarah. Her daughter, Myra (Bakke) and son-in-law Vincent of Great Falls, have 3 adult children, Christopher, Michael and Amanda. Her four great-grandchildren, Sophie, Abigayle, Molly and Harrison have provided a new source of delight for her. Ellie is preceded in death by her husband, Myron; daughter Kathy; and mother Elethea McEwan. She was involved in a wide variety of groups, club and volunteer organizations. She was a long time member of the Great Falls Flower Club, Rainbow Garden Club, and Life Members Garden Club. She volunteered on a regular basis at the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store and at First English Lutheran’s Helping Hands program. Ushering at the Mansfield Center and for the Great Falls Lion’s, was always top on her list of things to do. During the summer, she rarely missed the Great Falls Voyager baseball games, except to attend the State Fair to eat a Viking and watch the hypnotist. Ellie was also a member of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and celebrated 41+ years of sobriety. She never stopped working the program or helping others on their journey to sobriety. She had a reputation of saying it like it was and not sugar coating the truth that others needed to hear. Many feel she is the reason they have the years of sobriety they have. Ellie’s mission for the last 10 years has been to supply Helping Hands at First English Lutheran with toilet paper for those in need. Last week she requested one more “toilet paper party.” So please, no flowers, just bring toilet paper or a donation to First English Lutheran Helping Hands. Visitation will be Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to the vigil service at 7:00 p.m. both at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. A funeral liturgy will be Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. also at Holy Spirit. In celebration of her new “spring” wear your bright colors to say farewell. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
