George Wald

George Wald passed away Friday, November 1, 2013, at the age of 84, with his wife and children by his side. Services will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church; a vigil service will be held Friday, November 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., and a funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.George was born December 7, 1928 to Mary and George Wald in Strasburg, ND. He moved to Miles City with his family in 1944 when he was a sophomore in high school. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in 1947 and was offered a scholarship to attend Carroll College. He instead chose to serve in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951.George married his high school sweetheart, Mollie Gaglia, February 9, 1950. In Miles City, he worked for the VA Hospital, owned/operated Sagebrush Standard Service Station and was a sales rep for Standard Oil Company. In 1964, George, Mollie and their six children moved to Great Falls when he was transferred to be the Western Regional Sales Rep for Standard Oil Company. He later owned/operated the Country Club Standard Service Station and then Georges Meadowlark Phillips 66 Service Station. George retired from the service station business in 1992 and then worked with his eldest son and daughter-in-law, taking care of the books at Central Floor Covering, until he was 81 years old.George was a dedicated husband, celebrating his 63rd wedding anniversary with Mollie this past February, and a loving father and grandfather, traveling the state to follow his children and grandchildrens school activities. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Sunrise Lions Club, and the Knights of Columbus. George lived his life to its fullest, taking flying lessons (upon Mollies objections) and playing softball until he was 60. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, bowling, and he always had time for a good game of poker.George is survived by his wife, Mollie; five children and their spouses, Tom (Sheryl) Wald, Doug (Melodi) Wald, Janet (Dee) Knutson, Geri (Tim) Burton, and Judy (Pete) Tucker; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Dani (Chris), Tyson, Bobbi (Luke), Nick (Jess), Kolter (Lucy), Kendal (Tyler), Brittany (Jake), Brice, Matt, Jessi (Jace), and Jake; five great-grandchildren, Cole, Molli, Gus, Stella, and Haddie, and one on the way. George is also survived by his sister, Katie (Fred) Dyba.George was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Georgean (George) Wald; his parents and his brother, Martin.Memorials are suggested to Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 201 44th St S, Ursuline Centre, 2300 Central Ave, or the Benefis Dialysis Unit, 2800 11thAv S.
