Larry Gene Gibbs

June 4, 1943 — November 6, 2020

Larry Gene Gibbs died at Peace Hospice in Great Falls, Montana on Thursday, November 16, 2020, after contracting Covid-19. Born June 4, 1943, in York, Pennsylvania, he joined the United States Air Force after completing high school and married Vickie Booher on August 13, 1966.

After spending time in the Air Force stationed in Germany, Thailand, and The Philippines as well as various locations in the United States, Larry’s last stop was at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls. He and Vickie chose to settle in Great Falls, and Larry worked for many years for a private security company at the Montana Air National Guard base near the airport. He later retired, working part-time in parking at the airport to keep himself busy.

For much of Larry’s post-military life, he worked evenings but always made time to spend with his family on the weekends, often cooking meals and baking cakes and pies. Before the years caught up with him, he enjoyed camping in the summertime and bowling, an activity he shared with both of his sons. He also loved playing card games, laughing with friends and family, and telling jokes, having numerous “dad jokes” at the ready at all times. In his free time, he most enjoyed watching television and movies.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Shermeyer, and his father, Eugene Gibbs, and two siblings, Gary Gibbs, and Nancy Gibbs. Larry is survived by his sister, Doris Bietzel; two sons, Kevin, and Brandon; Kevin’s son Nicholas; and Brandon’s three sons, Emmett, Victor, and Henry.

A celebration of life service for both Vickie and Larry will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home at 1510 13th Street South in Great Falls.  All are welcome, and refreshments will be served.
