Lillian Bourne

Lillian (Dostal) Bourne, 94, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014 after a 2 day stay at a Great Falls hospital. At the time of her death, she was a resident of the Rainbow Retirement Center. She was the last surviving child of Marie (Laub) and Frank Dostal.Lillian, one of twin daughters, was born in Iliad, Montana February 10, 1920. She did her schooling at Coffee Creek, Denton, and graduated from high school in Buhl, ID where her father had a harness and shoe shop. She attended college in Weiser, ID.Later she worked as a carhop at Petes Place in Great Falls where she met her husband, Earl Bourne, who adored her. They were married at St. Anns Cathedral on February 25, 1941. Mom was a homemaker who had many talents. She drove a gravel truck for Earls familys sand and gravel business. She was an accomplished seamstress whether sewing the smallest of doll clothes or prom dresses. Mom spent many years volunteering at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, being the Sacristan, President of the Altar Society, and Home and School Association also participating in other church activities. Her cinnamon rolls and twists were family favorites.Socially, Mom loved hosting her New Years Eve parties with friends. She was very proud of the cabin at Holter Lake that she built with Earl. Fishing, card playinghand and foot and pinocholeand spending time with her family were her favorite activities.She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, two named Frank, Joseph, Elmer and Stanley; sisters Margaret Ployhar, Mildred Siron, twin sister Emily Bronec and Frances Taborek; Earl, her husband of 70 years; tragically a son, Charles, in 1963 with bone cancer; and grandson David Bourne.Surviving sons and daughters-in-law are James (Lynn) of Great Falls and Bruce (Diane) of Seeley Lake; daughters and sons-in-law Patricia (Peter) McGuigan of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Cyndee (John) Church of Lewiston, ID; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.The family would like to thank the people of Great Falls for their many kindnesses to Mom and Dad over the years, especially the caring and compassionate staff of the Rainbow Retirement Center and Dr. Blair and staff.Her vigil will be held Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 5:30p.m. at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel. A funeral liturgy will be held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with a reception following interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
