Lois P. Mitchell

Lois P. Mitchell, aged 93, of Great Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at Benefis Peace Hospice of Great Falls.

A memorial service will be held at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.

Lois was born to Benjamin and Martha Preble of Williston, North Dakota on March 25,1933. Her family moved to Billings in 1936. Lois's Dad died December 1936. Martha married Quince “Pops” Chance in 1944, and they moved to Belfry where he farmed. She attended school and graduated in Belfry. Lois married her high school sweetheart, Walt Mitchell on August 29,1952, and enjoyed 64 years until Walt passed in October 2016. During their 64 years together they lived in Billings, moving to Missoula in 1954, and then later to Great Falls in 1955. Lois, Walt, and family moved to Kalispell in 1969, where they lived and worked before returning to Great Falls in 1976.

Lois was a Past Worthy Matron of Helen C. Roberts Chapter #71, order of the Eastern Star, member of Nile, and they were board members of Rainbow Girls. Lois worked as a secretary/librarian in Kalispell and medical records clerk in Great Falls and was church secretary of Sunrise Presbyterian.

During her free time, she liked to sew, knit, crochet, and lots of other craft projects.

She is survived by her children, Linda (Brian), Lyle (Lynne), Gary (Janice), and Brian (Karlene); sister, Joyce; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Walt; parents, Martha and Quince Chance, Benjamin Preble; and brothers, Buck and Bob.

Memorials can be made in her honor at Peace Hospice or Sunrise Presbyterian Church.
