Richard Urango

October 2, 1951 — August 29, 2016

On August 29, 2016, at home with his wife Shirley at his side, Richard Urango slipped quietly away into the arms of Jesus. His fight with cancer was sadly over.Richard was born in Terrence, California and later graduating from Channel Islands High School in Oxnard, California in 1969 he joined the Air Force for four years and afterwards, traveled around until he settled in Havre. He entered Northern College to obtain a nursing RN degree. After graduating, he moved to Great Falls and worked at the Columbus Hospital. He was proud of this accomplishment and loved nursing. He was popular with his patients and his peers. There he met and married the love of his life, Shirley, and RN who had recently moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Great Falls. He was also in the Air National Guard up on Gore Hill. He was involved for a brief time in Grand Forks, North Dakota during Desert Storm.Richard and Shirley enjoyed taking their children to their cabin in Wolf Creek, playing games, making popcorn, and having family activities. He also enjoyed taking Erin and Eric to Canada to the zoo and the dinosaur museum at Drum Heller. In later years, Richard and Shirley enjoyed their computers, electronic gear, and pets.Richard and Shirley were very proud of their children as they watched them grow into beautiful, kind, smart, young adults. Richard was always there for them when they asked for advice. He loved his pets, especially his little, Poko dog.He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter Erin (Keith) of Bozeman; son Eric of Missoula; mother Ruth Urango; and brothers Joseph (Christine) of Arizona, Michael (Gloria), Ronald Adaline), and Roger (Amelia) all of Oxnard, CA.Richard was preceded in death by his father, James Urango and brother James Anthony Urango.No services are being planned, per his request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.Donations are suggested to Best Friends Animal Hospital, 425 Smelter Ave NE, Great Falls, MT 59404 for their emergency charity fund for animals or Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
