Robert Lewis Vernon, 87, of Highwood, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2014.A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Bar S Supper Club. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home.Robert was born on August 17, 1927 in Great Falls, Montana to Mildred (Lawson) and James Vernon, Sr. He loved his country and entered the U.S. Navy in May of 1945, serving during WWII, Korea and Vietnam wars. He was an aviation machinist mate and Master Chief Petty Officer. Robert was stationed mainly in Miramar, CA naval station until his retirement in 1975 after 30 years of service. After retirement he became a part time farmer on a very small scale.Robert married Rena Katherine Turner in February of 1961. In 1975, the family moved to Highwood, MT. Rena passed away in October, 2003.Roberts mechanical skills enabled him to fix anything. He was a junk collector and jack of all trades and a master of none. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1087.Robert is survived by his son, Stacy (Terri) Vernon of Highwood, MT; brother Jack (Carol) Vernon of Idaho Falls, ID; and two grandchildren, Ryan J. and Reece L. Vernon.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rena; sister Alice Vernon; and brother, James Vernon.
