Roger Wolter

November 6, 1935 — December 1, 2016

Roger Fredrick Wolter, 81, of Great Falls, went to be with his Lord on December 1, 2016. He died peacefully at Hospice House after a very brave battle.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Central Assembly of God, 2001 Central Avenue. Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Lawn Mausoleum. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Roger was born November 6, 1935, in Bowler, Wisconsin, the second child of Naomi (Charleson) and Fredrick M. Wolter. The family moved to Montana when Roger was an infant, following his father's employment in the Flathead Valley, eventually settling in Missoula, where Roger attended grade school, junior high, and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1955. He attended the University of Montana before enlisting in the United States Army, serving for two years. He was employed in the insurance and bonding industries for over 40 years, retiring and selling Arrow Bail Bonding in 2005.Upon retirement, he was able to devote more time to his favorite hobby, coin collecting, and created and operated American Coin in conjunction with his son Kevin in Spokane, working closely with him in buying and selling precious metals and coins.Roger married Janice Jan Thompson on February 27, 1965. Jan shared Roger's love for travel, and they were blessed and privileged to spend many of their 51 years together visiting numerous countries in Europe, as well as Mexico, the Bahamas, Israel, Africa, and the Polynesian Islands, and most of the 50 states in the United States. Their travels were shared with family and precious friends. Roger loved recounting the memories from his favorite trips! In addition to travel, Roger loved the outdoors, and spent his younger years fishing, hunting or trapping. He was part owner in a helicopter corporation in the 1980s, and could bend your ear for hours with stories of coyote hunting and other helicopter escapades with his buddies. He remained a fisherman to the end, and his experiences included a number of Alaskan fishing adventures, at times proudly landing some record breaking whoppers (or so the story goes!) He looked forward every summer to a few days at Georgetown Lake with his brother-in-law, Jim, engaging in a 3-day fishing marathon while the wives shopped.Roger loved the Lord and was an active member of Central Assembly. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Great Falls Rescue Mission and supported Jan in her community endeavors. He will be remembered for his easy-going, patient and kind spirit, and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.Roger is survived by his wife, Jan; children Kevin (Kerry) Wolter of Post Falls, Idaho and Spokane, Washington; daughter Kristie (Eric) Spangenberg of Helena; and four grandchildren: Mark (Natalya) Wolter; Erika Wolter; and Nathan and Jacob Spangenberg. Additionally, four great-grandchildren blessed his life: Audrey, Isaiah, Samson and newly born Baby Boy Wolter. He is also survived by his sister Mary Rock of Darby, and her two adult children, Robert Rock, Jr. and Linda Rock, as well as a great-nephew.He was preceded in death by his parents.Roger has requested that Central Assembly of God Church, the Great Falls Rescue Mission, or Hospice House be the recipient of your memorial, should you choose to honor him in that way.Romans 12:12 - Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, andfaithful in prayer.
