Rose Kuntz, 90, of Great Falls, peacefully left her earthly home Saturday, October 15, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. The last days were in the care of the wonderful staff of Peace Hospice in Great Falls until she passed away from natural causes.Visitation is at 6:00 p.m., one hour prior to her vigil service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, both at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The funeral liturgy will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Rose was born on May 9, 1926, the thirteenth of fourteen children near Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada. She grew up on the family farm, where she learned to be homemaker extraordinaire. She had a love of music and at the age of 12 she taught herself to play a Gene Autry guitar she ordered from the catalog.She married Paul Kuntz on January 5, 1948, at St. Joseph Country Church near her home. They resided in North Dakota where their first 3 children were born. In 1955, they moved to Great Falls where 2 more children were born.Rose was known for her singing, sewing and cooking. She was an excellent cook and baker and loved to feed any and all who came to the house. Rose also loved to can and put up fruit and pickles of all kinds for her family. She worked as a seamstress, making custom draperies for many years. After she retired, she became interested in quilting and made beautiful hand-sewn quilts for herself and her family. Each grandchild was gifted with a special quilt and a baby quilt was saved for the first great-grandchild.She and Paul were devout Catholics all their lives and were founding members of St. Luke's the Evangelist Church. They spent many hours in service to the parish in many capacities. Rose was active in her circle and altar society. She returned to playing the guitar after raising her children and spent 20 years in music ministry at St. Luke's.Survivors include a sister, Emily Schmaltz of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada; daughters Paulette (Al) Koble of Great Falls, Bernadette (Dennis) Neuman of Bozeman, Melanie Kuntz of San Jose, CA, and Janet (Mike) Henning of Great Falls; son Stan (Renee) Kuntz of Great Falls; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; seven brothers and five sisters; and granddaughter Ashley Rose Henning.The family suggests memorials to Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St. S, Great Falls, MT 59405 or St. Martin de Porres Emilie Center, 1920 10th Ave S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
