Russell Russ L. Peterson, 94, of Great Falls, passed away on December 15, 2014.A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home Hospitality Room. A burial will follow at Manchester Cemetery.Russ was born September 23, 1920 at Cabin Creek, Montana to Walter and Julia (Amundson) Peterson. He was a long time resident of Great Falls. He attended school until his mother's death when he took over her responsibilities of raising siblings, Clifford, Arnold, Arlie, Lillian, Glen, Sherm and Stanley (he did all the cooking). They farmed the Cabin Creek homestead until moving to Fairfield in the 1930s. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1941. He served as a Tech Sgt. Airplane Mechanic Supervisor on a B29 for four years. He farmed, ranched, and worked in construction, including carpentry throughout his life. He was accomplished and took pride in everything he worked at.He married Lottie Olmstead in 1954.Russ was always willing to help whenever anyone was building on their homes. He loved dancing, cribbage, apple pie and could smell it cooking a mile away. He was generous and loving, a true cowboy.He is survived by his sister Lillian Boutilier; son Jack Rudin; daughter Janyce Jorgensen; grandchildren Marla, Dennis, Debbie, Jay, Mark, Shawn, and Kerri; 14 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.In lieu of flowers please donate to Peace Hospice, 1101 26th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
