Ruth Hanley

Ruth Grey Hanley, 96, of Great Falls, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.She was born Ruth Grey Argersinger on February 24, 1918 in Judith Gap, Montana. Ruth attended grade school in Lewistown, Montana where she met her future husband, Jack Hanley, in the fourth grade. She graduated from Fergus City High School in 1936. Ruth attended Montana State University in Bozeman for two years where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and later transferred and graduated from University of Montana in Missoula in Business Administration. She taught school in Sunburst, Montana for one year following graduation. As World War II broke out in 1941, Ruth moved with her friends to Los Angeles where she was a secretary.Ruth married John C. Hanley, M.D., a Navy medical officer in 1946 in Lewistown. They moved to Great Falls in 1946 and have since lived there continuously. They have four children, two boys and two girls and eleven grandchildren.As the kids grew, they spent many wonderful summers water skiing and golfing at Whitefish Lake and later at Lindbergh Lake; and winters snow skiing at Kings Hill (Showdown) and at Sun Valley, Idaho. She loved being a homemaker and spending time visiting with family and friends around the kitchen table.Ruth was an avid news buff and loved reading current world events, watching the news and following the stock market. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and neighbor; and was beloved by all - a truly, lovely lady.She is survived by her children, John R. Hanley, M.D. of Anchorage, AK; Richard G. Hanley, M.D. of Montrose, CO; Sheila Hanley Terry of Fairfield, IA; Patricia L. Tschirgi of Boise, ID; her grandchildren Cory, J.J. and Jason Hanley; Dallas and Celia Terry; Katrin, Leigh, and Matt Tschirgi; Alex, Jackie, and Tatum Hanley.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John Jack C. Hanley, M.D. in 1999.Memorials in her honor may be made to the Great Falls Rescue Miission, 326 2nd Ave S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
