Scott Lloyd Wetzel, 36, of Great Falls, died on Thursday, October 24, 2013.Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Schnider Funeral Home. Afuneral service will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Christian Fellowship. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.Scott Lloyd Wetzel Mountain Chief was born May 13, 1977, in Cut Bank Montana to Billie Jo Devereaux-Maddox and Mike Wetzel. Scott was an avid sports enthusiast, participating in sports his entire life. He made numerous all-star teams in baseball throughout his career. He attended Helena High School from 1992 to 1996 where he was selected as All-Conference Defensive End and voted Most Inspirational Player by his football teammates. He went on to start for the number one ranked Bengal basketball team that placed in the state tournament that year. After high school, he became a heavy equipment operator in his fathers company and worked in many states west of the Mississippi. He later attended the College of Great Falls where he studied to be a Chemical Dependency Counselor.He was a devoted fisherman, outdoorsman, and sports card collector. He was very proud of his Blackfeet Heritage and lived his culture through ceremonies and daily life. He appreciated what Creator gave him every day. Scott later became an inspirational speaker and spoke at numerous schools about the importance of culture, following the Red Road, and maintaining your strengths when dealing with drug and alcohol abuse. Scott had a gift of connecting to people from all walks of life and didnt judge. He seen the best in people and used humor to teach lessons and inspire many to be better in their life.Scott learned many things from his family and greatly appreciated lessons learned from his Grandparents Walter Blackie and Doris (Barlow) Wetzel, and Patricia Devereaux-Cobell and Bill Devereaux. His greatest love was for his sons Jacob and Robert. He loved to watch them participate in all their sports; teaching them lessons by sharing his experiences; and being there for them.He is survived by his father Mike Wetzel, his mother Billie-Jo Deveraux-Maddox, Step-father Ken Maddox, his sister Lea, his sons Jacob of Great Falls and Robert of Helena as well as longtime friend and confidant Margaret First Raised, Jacobs mother Crystal Surbrugg and Roberts mother Maria.His family and friends are extensive and he impacted so many that we would need three pages to list them all, and due to the government shutdown we cant afford ita humorous farewell shot that Scott would appreciate. We will miss that humor Scott, and all of the good you gave us.
