Theodore "Ted" Charles Funyak

June 20, 1933 — November 27, 2020

Theodore C. (Ted) Funyak, 87, passed away on Friday November 27, 2020 at the Ivy nursing home from COVID 19. A funeral liturgy will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Cathedral. Ted was born in Stockett, MT on June 20, 1933. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1951 and began working at KFBB T.V station as one of the first camera men. Ted apprenticed and worked as an engraver at Great Falls Engraving for several years before working at Buttrey Foods as a Commercial Arts photographer. He also had a part time business from home as a free lance photographer, photographing many weddings and providing commercial arts photography for Worldwide Press. He finished his working years as the Cascade County Animal Control Officer, retiring at the age of 70. Ted married Darlene (Betty) Aline on June 14, 1958 and they have been married 62 years. They were parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for 54 years until it was closed and then attended St. Ann’s Cathedral. Ted was very involved with the Church and served as a lay minister and donated group photographs to all attending members of Cursillos for over 40 years. Ted loved photography and photographed many area rodeos, stock car races, old buildings, and some very interesting characters he met over the years. He attended Pow Wows in Browning and took many colorful Native American dance and wardrobe photos through the years. He would process and prepare his photos to enter in the State Fair every year for over 50 years. He also loved roaming the sidelines taking action photos at many sporting events of his sons and grandsons. He was a kind, caring and patient man who was always willing to provide a kind word, encouragement, support, or a helping hand to others. He was even able to develop friendships with those who received citations from him during his time at the Sheriff’s Office. Ted is survived by his wife, Betty; his sons Kent (Kathy) and Kevin (Jami) of Billings; grandsons Nicholas, Zachary, and Lukas. He was preceded in death by his parents Mike and Mary Funyak and his sister Mary Louise McIntosh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Hospice of Montana or the River’s Edge Trail Foundation.
