Margaret Elizabeth “Maggie” Terwilliger Boyd of Great Falls passed away Monday, February 8, 2021, from natural causes at Peace Hospice in Great Falls. A private family service will be held under the direction of Schnider Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held later this year.

Maggie was born in Yreka, California on July 20, 1928, to Henry Disston Terwilliger and Henrietta Davis Terwilliger. After graduating from Siskiyou County High School in Yreka, she attended Oregon State College and trained to be a medical technician at the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland, Oregon.

She worked at the University of Oregon Medical School for four years and then went to St. James Hospital in Butte, Montana for four years. Maggie greatly enjoyed her time in Butte and had wonderful stories of living there. After she left Butte, she worked at the Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital in Medford, Oregon for two years before going to work at Stanford University Medical School in Palo Alto, California for two and a half years. During this time, the first open heart surgery was performed at Stanford.

On January 23, 1962, Maggie and Morty Boyd, Jr. were married in Reno, Nevada. Maggie and Morty first met in Whitefish while she was visiting Marie Boyd, her former roommate from her Portland days. Morty and Maggie had two sons, Mordecai James “Ky” Boyd, III in 1964 and Byron Boyd in 1967.

Maggie was an avid golfer. She is a past president of the Meadowlark Country Club Ladies Golf Association and served on the Club’s Green’s Committee for several years. She co-chaired both the 1989 Montana Women’s Amateur Golf Championship and the 1994 USGA Junior Girls Championship which were held at the Meadowlark Country Club.

Prior to becoming involved in women’s golf, Maggie played an active role in the Great Falls Figure Skating Club where she served on the Board of Directors. For GFFSC, she co-chaired two ice shows as well as the 1979 Pacific Coast Championships which was the first major event to be held at the newly built Four Seasons Arena.

Maggie was very active in her P.E.O chapter and a past president of Chapter AH. She was also very committed to her physical fitness regimen. She worked out with her trainer at The Peak and she was admired by many for her dedication and often asked about her age.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Morty in 2017.

Maggie is survived by sons, Ky J. Boyd of Santa Rosa, California, and Byron Boyd of Great Falls; Byron’s wife, April Boyd; and Ky’s husband, Michael O’Rand; as well as her sister, Ellen Colburn who continues to live on the ranch that she and Maggie grew up on outside of Montague, California.
